Repair Or Replace?
That is the question,
So here are a few determining factors when it comes to making the decision as to repair your garage door or replace it completely. First how old is the door, age of the door itself can make your decision for you sometimes. In the past 20 years the federal government has changed the safety regulations for all garage doors and believe it or not most of the garage doors in peoples homes do not meet those standards. Now forgetting about the safety rules depending on how old your garage door is there is probably no replacement parts available to purchase since the doors no longer meet the safety regulations no one produces those doors or parts for them. Now if your door does not meet these requirements then the decision is made for you since no licensed garage door company will repair a garage door outside of the federal regulations only replace it with a new garage door that is up to code.
Now let’s say that your door is only a few years old and meets all the federal regulations the question still stands; replace or repair?
Whats is wrong with the garage door? Did a spring break, is a panel bent, did your opener stop opening or is the door just impossible to open and keep open?
Well if it is something simple like a spring or opener the answer would be repair, all garage door technicians are equipped with the parts and tools need to replace your broken or snapped garage door springs. The garage door opener can be a bit more complicated depending on the model of the opener the company may not produce replacement parts for it or the damage to the opener might be to extensive that no repairs are going to be able to be made to it, therefore replacement is the only option you will have. If the issue with your garage door is the panels or the opening of your manual door the outcome can again vary on the exact make model and year of your door and what precise issue you are having. Most bent or damaged garage door panels can simply be replaced in a few days when you call the right garage door company, newer doors are of course easier to get replacement panels for but most companies keep the standards for panels the same it just depends on the thickness and insulation of your garage door. But if your garage door is stuck shut or open then the problem could be a quick fix like replacing the rollers or cable to get the garage door moving like it should again. Although that also will depend on the age of the door and who makes it.
So…. in short when it comes to replacing or repairing your garage door the best bet is to call in the professionals and let them go over all the various options you have for your specific garage door and the issue you are experiencing.
